Loose cement has a bulk density of 1440 kg/m³, so one 50 kg bag occupies 0.0347 m³ or 1.226 cubic feet. That single figure underpins almost every mix-design conversion on site.
Head-pans and farmas are still used for volumetric batching of small works. A standard farma of 350×250×400 mm holds exactly 0.035 m³ — one bag of cement — which is why it is sized that way.
Volumetric batching is permitted only up to M20 nominal mixes. Above that, IS 456 requires weigh batching because the bulking of damp sand can distort volume proportions by 20–30%.
Treat every output as an indicative pre-tender estimate. Site conditions, wastage allowances, specification changes and local market rates all move the final figure, so validate against your drawings and approved rate analysis before procurement.
